The three newly appointed Board members bring complementary perspectives from cardiovascular medicine, bioinformatics, and advanced medical imaging, fields that are playing an increasingly important role in the development of data-driven and AI-supported healthcare.

Institute for Infectious Diseases (IFIK), University of Bern

Prof. Dr. Alban Ramette

Prof. Ramette is Head of the Bioinformatics and Biostatistics Group at the Institute for Infectious Diseases. His research focuses on next-generation sequencing, microbial and viral genomics, and the development of bioinformatic pipelines for clinical diagnostics and translational research, bringing strong expertise in biomedical data analysis and computational methodology to the Board.

Cardiac Imaging and Digital Cardiology, Inselspital Bern

Prof. Dr. med. Christoph Gräni

Prof. Gräni is a cardiologist and serves as Director of Cardiac Imaging, including echocardiography, cardiac-CT, cardiac-MRI, and nuclear cardiology, as well as Director of Digital Cardiology at University Hospital Bern. His research focuses on improving diagnostics and risk prediction in different heart diseases, including myocarditis, amyloidosis, valve diseases, and coronary artery anomalies, through AI-based analysis of advanced multimodality imaging.

University Clinic for Nuclear Medicine, Inselspital Bern

Prof. Dr. med. Axel Rominger

Prof. Rominger is Director of the University Clinic for Nuclear Medicine at Inselspital, Bern, and an internationally recognised specialist in molecular imaging and imaging-based diagnostics. His clinical and scientific work focuses on the use of imaging technologies and digital innovation to improve disease detection, quantitative assessment, and therapy monitoring.

With the addition of these three experts, DDM further reinforces a leadership structure that brings together clinical excellence, biomedical data science, and digital innovation.

DDM warmly welcomes its new Board members and looks forward to the expertise and collaboration they will bring to the Department’s future activities.
